Protect Yourself From The Sun While you Tan

When going out in the sun, it is important that you take enough preventive measures to prevent any possible damages from the sun. Your skin is the most exposed part under the sun and you need to take care of it the most. There are various things that can help in protecting the different body features when you are in direct contact with sunlight.

Sunblocks and sunscreens for the face
Sunblocks and sunscreens are a great way to prevent your skin from burning. Use a sunscreen with a high SPF quotient. SPF or Sun Protecting Factor determines the time the sun would take to burn your skin once the lotion is applied. For instance if a sunscreen has a SPF 15, it increases the time sun will take to affect your skin by 15 times. This means that if your skin could resist the sun for ten minutes initially, it would now take 10 minutes X 15 i.e. 150 minutes of constant exposure to sunlight to cause sunburn.

It must be noted that SPF only offers protection against UVB rays. To protect your skin against UVA rays,  sunscreens must include ingredients like octylcrylene and benzophenones. There are certain sweat resistant and water resistant varieties of sunscreens available in the market that protect your skin even when you are perspiring or your skin is exposed to water.

Protective eyegear for the eyes
Like your skin, your eyes too get affected by constant exposure to the sun. Exposure to sunlight can even cause permanent damage to the eyes. Photokeratitis (temporary blindness), cataracts, muscular degeneration, and cancer are some of the possible damages that the sun can do to your eyes. To protect your eyes from the sunlight, you can use protective eye gear such as sunglasses.

Since not all sunglasses are able to provide you adequate sun protection, it is important that you choose your sunglasses with great care. Look for sunglasses that offer you 99-100% sun protection along with infrared protection. Polarized lenses offer you better sun protection. Sunglasses that are dark colored need not be the best option. It is not the shade but the amount of chemical coating applied to the lens that counts.

Lip balm with SPF for the lips
Since lips do not contain the skin pigment melanin, they do not have any natural defense against sunlight. To protect your lips from getting damaged from sun, you can use a lip balm with a high SPF. Make sure that you apply this lip balm at least half an hour before going out in the sun.

Following these tips would help you get tanned safely, under the sun. Use these things and you shall be able to protect yourself from any kind of sun damage and also be able to enjoy a wonderful tan.
