An Overview of Tanning Bed Lights

Tanning bed lights are the bulbs that are attached to the bed surface that emit the UVA or UVB radiation to tan your skin. The quality of your tanning depends on the tanning bed lights.

These lights are the main source of the radiation that stimulates the melanin content in your skin and changes its color.

Before you buy a sunless tanning product such as a tanning bed, you need to know certain facts about the lamps that are fixed on it. The self-tan tanning bed bulbs are of various kind and they play an important role in tanning.

Tanning bed lights imitate radiation mechanism of the sun. The sun emits UVA, UVB and UVC radiation. UVC radiation has the shortest wavelength and it is not produced by tanning bulbs.

The tanning bulbs produce the UVB and UVA wavelengths, which help in a healthy tan. UVB light  starts the tanning process by stimulating melanin development. UVA at a slower pace completes the required tanning process.

Bulbs that have a lower UVB level will actually make your tan darker but will take a long time. On the other hand, bulbs that have a higher UVB radiation level can help you to get a tan faster, but the tan will not be very dark,

The Bronzing lamps should have a lower level of UVB since they tan you darker in a slower process than normal bulbs. Bronzing bulbs are deferent from hot  bulbs. Hot tanning bulbs have a higher level of UVB and lesser level of UVA.

Generally, most of the tanning bed bulbs are rated and approved for 1000 hours of use. It is recommended that these bulbs be replaced after 600-800 hours of use.

You should be very careful about selecting the right tanning bulbs if you are setting up a tanning booth for either commercial or domestic use. The right tanning bulbs can make a lot of difference to the quality of the tan and the cost of your operations.
